MLB Free Agency: Will They Stay Or Will They Go?

MLB Free Agency has started off a little slower than normal, but today things have finally started to pick up a little bit. Here are the leagues top free agents from each team. I will update the list daily weather a free agent signs with another team or if he stays put. I'm going to put the team colors of whichever team has or is interested in signing the free agent. I will also keep a section at the bottom "Off season Trades" where i will post the trades that have been made around the MLB.

Atlanta Braves

SS Alex Gonzalez:  Brewers: 1 year deal 4.25 Million Dollars option for 2013.

CF Nate McLouth:  Pirates: 1 year 1.75 million dollars

RP George Sherill:  Mariners: One year 1.1 Million dollar deal.

Arizona Diamonbacks

2B Aaron Hill:  Diamondbacks: 2 years 11 million dollars

P Jason Marquis:  Twins: 1 year 3 Million dollars.


1B Xavier Nady:

1B Lyle Overbay:  Diamondbacks: 1 year deal. Terms of the contract have not yet been disclosed

Baltimore Orioles

DH Vladimir Guerrero:

SS Cesar Izturis:  Brewers: (Minor League contract) Terms of deal have not yet been disclosed.

LF Luke Scott:  Rays:  1 year deal 6 Millon dollars, with a option for the 2013 season.

Boston Redsox:

P Erik Bedard:  Pirates: 1 year 4.5 Million dollars

RF J.D. Drew:

DH David Ortiz: Redsox: Oritiz will remain in Boston for at least the 2012 season after accepting the Redsox arbitration offer.

RP/CP Jonathan Papelbon: Philles: 4 years 50 Million dollars. Potentially 5 years 60 million

Chicago Cubs

RF Reed Johnson:  Cubs: 1 year contract worth 1.15 million.

Detroit Tigers

3B Wilson Betemit:  Orioles:  2 year deal 3.25 Million dollars, with option worth up to 3.2 Million in the 2014 season.

2B Carlos Guillen:  Mariners:  (Minor League contract) includes an invatation to Spring Training.

RF Magglio Ordonez:  Fresh off coming off of a broken ankle. Ordonez says he will be back, however he has made it clear that he will not accept a Minor League Contract.

RP/P Brad Penny:

RP Joel Zumaya:  Twins: 1 year deal worth anywhere from 800,000-1.7 Million dollars.

Miami Marlins (Formerly known as the Flordia Marlins)

3B Gregg Dobbs:  Marlins:  2 years, 3 Million dollars.

2B Jose Lopez:  Indians: agreed on a minor league contract on 12-16-11. Which does not include a roster invite to spring training.

Houston Astros

SS Clint Barmes:  Pirates: 2 years 10.5 Million Dollar deal.

2B Craig Counsell:  Retired. Craig Counsell has hanged up the cleats after 15 successful years in the big leagues, and 2 World Series titles. However Counsell will join the Brewers as a member of their front office this season.

1B Prince Fielder:  Tigers:  9 year deal 214 Million dollar contract.


3B Jerry Hairston Jr:  Dodgers: 2 years 6 Million dollars.

RP LaTroy Hawkins:

RP/CP Francisco Rodriguez (K-Rod:)  Brewers: 1 year deal 8 Million dollars.

  • December 7th:  Rockies trade closer Houston Street to the San Diego Padres for pitching prospect Nick Schmidt.

  • December 9th: Rockies have been very active in the trade market so far this off season. The Rockies sent third baseman Ian Stewart and Casey Weathers to the Chicago Cubs for Tyler Colvin and DJ LeMahieu.

  • December 9th:  Nationals trade RHP Collin Balester for Tigers RHP Ryan Perry.

  • December 9th:  Diamondbacks trade pitchers Jarrod Parker, and Ryan Cook, and outfielder Collin Cowgill to the Oakland Athletics for pitcher Trevor Cahill and Craig Breslow

  • December 12th:  The Philles traded outfielder Ben Francisco to the Toronto Blue Jays for minor league reliever Frank Gailey. 

  • December 13th:  Pittsburgh Pirates trade pitcher Jose Veras to Brewers for reliever Casey McGehee. 

  • December 14th:  Redsox trade Jed Lowrie and pitching prospect Kyle Weiland to the Houston Astros for right hander Mark Melancon.

  • December 16th:  San Diego Padres trade outfielder Aaron Cunningham to the Cleveland Indians. For minor league pitcher Cory Burns.

  • December 17th:  In a five player deal the Cincinnati Reds traded away pitcher Edinson Volquez, and what was described as three of the clubs "top prospects." For Padres right hander Mat Latos.

  • December 21st:  Padres trade catcher Luis Matinez for Rangers right handed pitcher Ryan Kelly.

  • December 21st:  The Cincinnati Reds and Chicago Cubs have agreed on a trade (pending physicals.) That would send Reds left hander Sean Marshall to the Cubs for left hander Travis Wood, and two Minor Leaguers

  • December 22nd: The Nationals went all in on Thursday. Sending four prospects over to the Oakland A's for stud left hander Gio Gonzalez.

  • December 28th:  The Redsox have acquired closer Andrew Bailey from the Oakland Athletics. For outfielders Ryan Sweeny, Josh Reddick, and two prospects. Bailey was a two time all star with the A's.

  • December 31st:  The San Diego Padres acquired slugger Carlos Quentin from the Whitesox for a left handed, and a right handed pitcher. Right hander Simon Castro and left hander Pedro Hernandez were the key pieces to the puzzle.

  • January 1st:  Chicago Whitesox trade pitcher Jason Frasor to the Toronto Blue Jays for two minor leaguers (Myles Jay and Daniel Webb.) 

  • January 3rd:  The Baltimore Orioles traded first baseman Brandon Snyder to the Texas Rangers for cash considerations on Tuesday.

  • January 3rd:  The Oakland Athletics trade outfielder Jai Miller to the Baltimore Orioles for cash considerations on Tuesday.

  • January 5th:  The Cubs traded pitcher Carlos Zambrano to the Miami Marlins for cash considerations, and former first round pick Chris Volstad.

  • January 6th:  San Diego Padres trade first baseman Anthony Rizzo to the Chicago Cubs for Minor League pitcher Zach Cates.
